Today in Tokyo, Weekly Shonen Jump editor-in-chief Hiroyuki Nakano announced that popular anime and manga series One Piece is getting a TV drama. To the surprise of the fans, it’s not a japanese one but rather a western TV Drama. The venue of announcement had a screen displaying information about the news and the screen next to Hiroyuki stated that One Piece is being turned into an overseas (or foreign) drama. Hollywood’s ITV Studios, which is also doing a live-action Cowboy Bebop, will be doing the One Piece TV drama. The producer for ITV Studios named Marty Adelstein is well known for his work on the tv series Prison Break.
One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda did comment on this announcement by saying that he, “absolutely didn’t want to betray” fans who’ve been supporting the series for the past twenty years. “That was the condition from me,” Oda added in a written statement.
When asked about more details for the drama Nakano said, “no comment.” and that more details will be revealed at a later date.
